Bowel cancer screening

The Bowel Cancer Screening programme targets people who are aged 50 to 74 and registered with a GP practice.

Home test kits are sent to patients in the post automatically once they reach 50 years of age, then every two years thereafter between the age range above.

  1. The NHS bowel cancer screening kit can save your life
  2. Just a tiny sample detects signs of bowel cancer before you notice anything wrong
  3. If you’re sent an NHS bowel cancer screening kit, put it by the loo. Do not put it off.

Why is screening offered?

  1. Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK
  2. Detecting bowel cancer at the earliest stage makes you up to 9 times more likely to be successfully treated
  3. The NHS bowel cancer kit detects signs of cancer before you notice anything wrong
